#28 Snow Fest Rancho Santa Susana Park 365 Things to do in Simi Valley

Simi Valley Snow FestThis is the second year the Rancho Simi Parks and Recreation Department puts on this Free event at Rancho Santa Susana Park.  Simi Valley Snow Fest has become very popular as one of the hills in the park is covered with snow, and a flat patch of snow is put out for the preschool age children.    Snow Fest, from what I understand was originally an Arts Festival that needed renewed interest and an attraction bring people down for the day.  Southern California’s especially Simi Valley residents have to travel to see snow until now. Even though there is a line and little bit a of a wait to sled down a short hill, families are eager to participate. The snow play is not the only thing to do as Snow Fest has entertainment, vendor booths, Food and a kids play area.

(Video Below) The Simi Valley Days Carnival is a 5 day event that takes place the weekend after the Simi Valley Days Parade.  Rides, Food, Music and shopping are part of the fun.

The more unusual event is the Cow Chip Bingo contest.  You can buy a chance to win prize money in this event.  How it works, is you purchase a square on a large grid. A section of the park is fenced off, marked with a grid and half a dozen cows are left to roam while the spectators wait patiently for the cows to drop their load on a numbered square.

#24 Simi Valley Days Parade – 365 Things To Do in Simi Valley

simi valley days(Video Below) This year’s Simi Valley Days Parade took place on September 11, 2010. This event goes all way back to 1933 and was originally branded Pioneer Days.  I actually participated (in the parade) in the late 1970s with my high school and the route was on the East End of Simi Valley ending on Kuhner.

For the last 26 years the parade route has begun at Los Angeles Ave and Erringer; the parade moves west down Los Angeles Ave and ends at Sinaloa, with the announcers stand in the Von’s parking lot.

This is a typical Community Parade in which I believe our businesses and organizations have a prime opportunity to get out and show the Simi Valley community what we have available. It may not be the fanciest parade but it’s a lot of fun, all just the same and a great time to come out and support all our friends, their organizations and businesses.

The parade begins at nine o’clock and is preceded by a 5K/10k race. This is the kickoff to the Simi Valley days celebration that will take place at Rancho Simi Community Park at the corner of Erringer & Royal.

#19 Simi Valley Boys & Girls Club Annual Poker Tournament – 365 Things to do in Simi Valley

Simi Valley Boys and Girls Club annual Charity poker tournament(Video Below) Some people asked me if 365 things to do in Simi Valley would revolve around eating. While restaurants will definitely get coverage, activities in Simi Valley are very diverse. The Boys and Girls Club of Simi Valley has been a big part of this community for over 36 years. The valuable service the Boys and Girls Club has provided Simi Valley is greatly appreciated through the support of the community and business owners involved in events like the Boys and Girls Club Annual Poker Tournament.

This one night event is one of the better fundraisers I have attended in Simi Valley. Tournament Poker is very popular on TV and online. This event gives poker fans an opportunity to come out, compete against other poker players and possibly win a prize if they can make it to the last table of the evening. Even for those like myself who are not poker players, I had a great time to sit down and learn the game while supporting one of Simi Valley’s top organizations. If you’ve ever wondered what a charity poker tournament is like, please check out the video below and I hope to see you at the tables next year.  For more information about the Boys and Girls Club of Simi Valley please visit http://www.bgcsimi.com
