Since 1998 a giant happy face has adorned the hillside off Khuener Drive greeting all who descend down the 118 freeway into Simi Valley. Ironically the creation is from a resident of Notrthridge, who tried the same thing in a few locations in the San Fernando Valley, but ultimately found the perfect Hill in Simi Valley. Over the years the various property owners have been cooperative with him maintaining the Happy Face until recently the property was sold to a new owner ,who has not granted acces to the site.
Apparently, people missing the giant Happy Face gained access to the site and constructed a new and smaller version. The new version looks to be approximately half the size, but I am sure that those who have driven past the renegade landmark for the last 14 years are happy to see Happy Face Hill smiling again no matter how large or small. It would be wonderful if a more permanent Happy Face design were erected, as Simi Valley is truly a happy place to visit.
