Hidden Waterfalls of Simi Valley 365 Things do in Simi Valley

Where are the Hidden Waterfalls of Simi Valley?  Heavy Rains or Rare Rain Events bring the Hills around Simi Valley to life, both with green plants returning and natural water flows through the picturesque rocky formations of the Santa Susana Mountains.  Probably the best known falls near Simi Valley are in Thousand Oaks at Wildwood Park.  That hike is much further, but unlike Simi Valley, you are rewarded with falls that run year round.  Since the Hidden Water Falls of Simi Valley are not as well known, it feels more adventurous in their discovery.

These natural water flows/waterfalls have a short life span as our creeks and streams are known as “Arroyos”.  Arroyos typically are dry unless there is significant rain.  There really is not much to see unless you go out right after a significant rain event.  When venturing out to see these spectacular water flows always be alert to the possibility of flash flooding and stay safe.  It is best not to go alone and take a buddy with you.

 

The Hummingbird Trail on the east end of Simi Valley is where you will find access to one of the larger waterfalls in Simi Valley.  The walk/hike in is under 1 mile. Be prepared to cross the stream at a few points which may cause you to get wet.  If you bring your dog, there is a leash rule in the park and if your dog cannot cross the steam you may have to carry your dog over the stream.

To get to The Hummingbird Trail Take the 118 east and exit Kuehner and go left (north).  Just before the entrance to Hummingbird Ranch there is parking on the street and you will see signs that point to the Trail Head for the Hummingbird trail. 

 One last word of Caution, this trail is very popular with mountain biker riders, please be alert when accessing this area.
