Simi Valley 5K – 10K Run 365 Things to do in Simi Valley

Simi Valley 5k - 10k run Simi Valley Fair and Music Festival(Video Below) The Simi Valley Fair & Music Festival, formerly called Simi Valley Days has included a 5k – 10k run almost every year in the last 25 years I can remember.  The race has taken on a few different routes and this year’s race was no exception.  The Start – Finish line began in Rancho Simi Park’s Parking lot off Thompson and sent runners into the arroyo and out on to Erringer.  The course went east on Los Angeles Avenue shortly before retuning back to the Arroyo heading East to First Street for those ready to tackle the 10k distance.  All levels of runners, joggers and walkers were welcome. Make sure to get over to Simi Valley Fair & Music Festival’s Facebook page and click the like button so you can stay in touch with next year’s schedule of events.

#25 Simi Valley Days Carnival – 365 Things to do in Simi Valley

(Video Below) The Simi Valley Days Carnival is a 5 day event that takes place the weekend after the Simi Valley Days Parade.  Rides, Food, Music and shopping are part of the fun.

The more unusual event is the Cow Chip Bingo contest.  You can buy a chance to win prize money in this event.  How it works, is you purchase a square on a large grid. A section of the park is fenced off, marked with a grid and half a dozen cows are left to roam while the spectators wait patiently for the cows to drop their load on a numbered square.

#24 Simi Valley Days Parade – 365 Things To Do in Simi Valley

simi valley days(Video Below) This year’s Simi Valley Days Parade took place on September 11, 2010. This event goes all way back to 1933 and was originally branded Pioneer Days.  I actually participated (in the parade) in the late 1970s with my high school and the route was on the East End of Simi Valley ending on Kuhner.

For the last 26 years the parade route has begun at Los Angeles Ave and Erringer; the parade moves west down Los Angeles Ave and ends at Sinaloa, with the announcers stand in the Von’s parking lot.

This is a typical Community Parade in which I believe our businesses and organizations have a prime opportunity to get out and show the Simi Valley community what we have available. It may not be the fanciest parade but it’s a lot of fun, all just the same and a great time to come out and support all our friends, their organizations and businesses.

The parade begins at nine o’clock and is preceded by a 5K/10k race. This is the kickoff to the Simi Valley days celebration that will take place at Rancho Simi Community Park at the corner of Erringer & Royal.
